$2.6m on upgrades/new passing lane for SW Hwy

Transport Minister Troy Buswell said today $2.6million would be spent on upgrading and improving a curve near Brookhampton on the South Western Highway.

“One of Main Roads’ services providers, Fulton Hogan, has recently been granted approval to deliver the works which will involve the upgrade of a 1.2-kilometre section of the highway and construction of a new passing lane south of the Donnybrook town site,” Mr Buswell said.

“South Western Highway forms a vital part of the regional road network which supports the South-West region’s economy. The planned improvements will benefit industry and the local community alike.

“These works are part of the State Government’s commitment to improving road safety in Western Australia.”

Funding for the project has been made available from the Safer Country Roads program as part of the Government’s ongoing commitment to improving the road link.

Works are expected to be completed by April 2013.
