Hon Troy Buswell BEc MLA
Transport Minister Troy Buswell said today that $1.4million would be spent improving Mingenew-Morawa Road in the State’s Mid-West as part of the Liberal National Government’s ongoing commitment to improve country roads.
Proposed works include widening 11 kilometres of road and the reconstruction of two curves, east of the Green Brook Bridge between the towns of Mingenew and Morawa, which will dramatically improve the safety of this section of road.
“Mingenew-Morawa Road provides an important east-west transport link between Sino Steel’s iron ore mine and the port of Geraldton,” Mr Buswell said.
“It is also an important grain cartage route, for trucks accessing the area’s only fast train loading infrastructure at CBH’s Mingenew grain facility from the east.”
The works will be delivered utilising a combination of State blackspot funding and a contribution from Sino Steel.
The Minister said Sino Steel provided funds to Main Roads and local government to help maintain and upgrade roads as part of a Deed of Agreement to use concessional loading.
“This project is made possible by industry and government working together to ensure the economic growth of the region and the safety of road users,” he said.
Mr Buswell said one of Main Roads’ Integrated Services providers, Downer Mouchel, would deliver the works, which would take place between February and April 2013.
